With the internet, stand-up comedy acts have really seen a boom over the past few years. More and more people now seem connected to the videos and some even eagerly wait to watch their favourite ones perform on stage. Some of them have even made it to movies and forayed into television as well with their own standalone shows and film projects. Here's a list of artists who have successfully managed to transition into films and TV in the recent past.

Kapil Sharma

One of country’s favourite prime time stand-up comedians, Kapil Sharma started his own celebrity chat show in 2013 and became a household name shortly after. After which he went on to star in lead roles in commercially and critically successful films like 'Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon' and 'Firangi'. The comedian recently created a stand up special with an OTT streaming platform.

Mallika Dua

The Indian comedian, actress and writer and our very own 'Tinder aunty', Mallika Dua shot to fame with the viral video of Shit People Say: Sarojini Nagar Edition, which was written, styled and enacted by Dua herself. Since then, Mallika has been a fan favourite in the world of stand-up comedians in India. Mallika went on to be a part of various comedy and stand up shows longside the best comics of the industry. Mallika also made her acting debut in films with a small role in the 2017 smash hit, 'Hindi Medium', and later went on to be a part of films like 'Namastey England', ‘Zero’, and 'Indoo ki jawaani' in significant roles.

Amit Tandon

Known for his clean comedy, and light hearted feel good shows, Amit Tandon is an immensely popular name in the Indian stand-up comedy industry. He was one of the first Indian stand-up comedians on a renowned OTT streaming platform. In his short span of career, Amit has done over 200 international shows across 25 countries and has recently, and now has also announced his own standalone TV show called 'Goodnight India'. Reportedly, the show is touted to be a family comedy serial, given the channel's content strategy and target audience.

Prajakta Koli

Back in 2015, Prajakta Koli started off her journey in the world of comedy with her Youtube channel and has now emerged to be a successful youth icon. Eventually, the comedian got the opportunity to be a part of various comedy shows in the digital space. Not just that, even Prajakta tried her hand at acting with the OTT shows, 'Mismatched', which is coming up with a sequel this year. The comedian will next be seen in Karan Johar’s 'Jug Jug Jeeyo' starring Varun Dhawan, Neetu Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Kiara Advani.

Bhuvan Bam

The Indian comedian, writer, singer, songwriter, and YouTube personality from Delhi, Bhubvan Bam rose to fame with his comedy channel on YouTube named BB Ki Vines. The multi-talented performer recently achieved a new feat by launching his own production house with a comedy web-show, Dhindora, with himself in the lead role. The show went on to be extremely successful with a rating of above 9 on almost every episode.
