Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has officially started shooting for the much-awaited sequel 'Tumbbad 2'. The actor recently revealed that he would be spending Eid on the sets of the upcoming horror drama instead of celebrating the festival away from work.Nawazuddin also shared his excitement about joining the sequel and spoke about the character he will be portraying in the film. Opening up about balancing work and celebrations, the actor described Eid this year as a working festival for him. Speaking about the project, as quoted News 18, Nawazuddin said, “It is going to be a working festival for me. Even on Eid, I am shooting for Tumbbad 2. I am very excited about bringing this character to life as it has multiple layers."

'Tumbbad' became a cult horror classic

'Tumbbad 2' serves as the sequel to the 2018 folk-horror film 'Tumbbad', which later achieved cult status among audiences. The original film featured Sohum Shah in the lead role of Vinayak Rao. The story followed his dangerous obsession with hidden treasure connected to the mysterious village of 'Tumbbad' in Maharashtra. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Anand Gandhi, the film earned praise for its visual storytelling, mythology-driven narrative and atmospheric horror elements.
Over the years, 'Tumbbad' gained a strong fan following because of its unique blend of folklore, greed and psychological horror. The film is now widely regarded as one of the most distinctive horror dramas made in Indian cinema.

'Tumbbad' created history internationally

'Tumbbad' also achieved international recognition after its release. The film premiered in the Critics’ Week section at the 75th Venice International Film Festival. It became the first Indian film to be screened in that category.The makers officially announced 'Tumbbad 2' earlier this year through a social media poster reveal. Sharing the poster announcement in April, the team wrote, “A sinful past, an ominous future. The hunger rises, the legacy of greed continues… Mark your calendars #Tumbbad2 arrives on 3. 12. 2027".The sequel is being directed by Adesh Prasad and is currently under production. Nawazuddin Siddiqui joining the franchise has also become one of the major talking points surrounding the sequel which is officially scheduled to release in theatres on December 3, 2027.
