‘Love Sonia’: Interesting facts about the Tabrez Noorani film

The Tabrez Noorani directorial is unique in particularly interesting in terms of casting. While it has some powerhouse performers from B-town such as Rajkummar Rao, Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadda and many others, it also has some big names from Hollywood. Demi Moore, Mark Duplass are also part of the film and interestingly, its lead is newcomer Mrunal Thakur, making it a movie that is beyond industries and regions.

Rajkumar Hirani is considered as one of the biggest and excellent filmmakers in India. So getting rave praise from him is no small deal, which is exactly what this film has achieved. Speaking about ‘Love Sonia’, the ‘Sanju’ director had nothing but praise as he said that there are very few films that can truly disturb you and this is one of them. This is exactly what newcomer Mrunal Thakur faced who plays the lead in the film. In fact she revealed that thanks to the traumatic and sensitive nature of the film, shooting was a real challenge for her as she had nervous breakdowns on set. She also praised the cast and crew for putting her at ease and making it as easy for her as possible.

While Love Sonia has enough clout behind it due to international acclaim, it still has a challenge at the box office on Friday, for it will be facing a juggernaut. Also releasing this Friday is Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Manmarziyaan’, which has generated a huge amount of interest. Sai Tamhankar, who is a big name in the Marathi film industry, is also playing a crucial role in the film as Anjali, a prostitute turned pimp. Since her character was that of a middle aged woman who has been ravaged by the sex trafficking industry, she had to look the part. For this particular role, she put on ten kilos to look out of shape and she revealed that this weight gain actually helped in getting the body language and walk just right. This goes to show how dedicated she is for a particular role.
