'Jersey', 'RX100', 'Kaithi': South films being remade in Bollywood

While the films down south are often rich in content, the language barrier restricts the audience across the country from enjoying it. However, many of them are now being remade in Bollywood, making them available for a larger audience. While we have seen many south remakes in the past, there are many upcoming ones in the pipeline.

From ‘Jersey’ to ‘Tadap’ to ‘Gumrah’ and others, here’s a rundown of Hindi remakes of south films to look forward to!

‘Jersey’

After impressing the audience down south, the makers of the 2019 hit Telugu film, ‘Jersey’ are remaking the film in Hindi. The film is about a talented but failed cricketer, who decides to return to cricket in his late thirties. The man is driven by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfil his son's wish for a jersey as a gift.

The Hindi remake will also be directed by Gowtam Tinnanauri, who has helmed the original and will star Shahid Kapoor in the lead role. His first look as a cricketer in the film has already made his fans super excited for the movie. It will also feature Pankaj Kapur and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles.

‘Tadap’

Suneil Shetty’s son Ahah Shetty will mark his Big Bollywood debut with the Hindi remake of hit Telugu film, ‘RX100’. The film has been renamed as, ‘Tadap’ and also stars Tara Sutaria in the lead role. The film is about a village boy who falls in love with the daughter of a local politician.

The love saga will be directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The original film featured Kartikeya Gummakonda and Payal Rajput in the lead roles.

‘Anniyan’ remake

Have you watched the 2005 Tamil blockbuster film, ‘Anniyan’? We are sure most of you have! The Hindi dubbed version of the film was titled, ‘Aparichit’. The film starred Vikram in the lead role.

Bollywood is all set to make a Hindi version of the movie. Directed by south filmmaker Shankar, the film will reportedly stare Ranveer Singh in the lead role. It will also feature Kiara Advani as the female lead.

'Kaithi' remake

Ajay Devgn is undoubtedly the king of south remakes in Bollywood. After starring in films like, ‘Drishyam’, ‘Son Of Sardar’, ‘Singham’ and others, he is all set to feature in ‘Kaithi’ remake. 'Kaithi' focuses on the journey of Dilli, an ex-convict, whose plans of meeting his daughter are thwarted when an inspector conducts a drug raid.

The original action-thriller featured Karthi in the lead. The 2019 release was written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The Hindi remake will be directed by Jagan Shakthi of ‘Mission Mangal’ fame.

'Thadam' remake

Tamil movie ‘Thadam’ joins the bandwagon of films ready to be remade in Hindi. The movie is directed by Magizh Thirumeni and stars Arun Vijay in the pivotal role.

The Hindi remake of this movie is directed by Vardhan Ketkar and it will reportedly star Sidharth Malhotra in the lead role along with Mrunal Thakur. The actor will be seen playing a double role in the movie. It has been tentatively titled, 'Gumrah'.
