Celebrity make-up artiste Subhash Shinde, who has worked with several actresses including Sridevi, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan and Jacqueline Fernandez, is the man behind
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's transformation in the upcoming biopic, '
Sarbjit
'. Her character, Dalbir Kaur, ages from 22 to 52 in her fight to free her brother.
Subhash says, 'When producer Sandeep Singh told me that I would be working with Ash, I was ecstatic. Director Omung Kumar had a clear vision about how he wanted her to look. The brief was to underplay Ash's glamourous appeal. We didn't use prosthetics as we wanted her character to look natural.'
Elaborating on the process, he says, 'The years spanning from 22 to 30 was a cakewalk as her face has a youthful contour, so highlighting it took no effort. For her 30s-40s look, I used a combination of colour, shadings to dull the glow of her face and create blemishes.'
He admits that the real challenge was to create the 40-45 look as people age dramatically during this phase due to stress. 'To achieve that, I turned her skin darker with foundation and colour-shaded her under eyes and cheekbones to create crow's feet. For the 45 to 52 look, the pigmentation had to be defined and the wrinkles evident. The credit goes to Ash, who sat through patiently as I experimented on her till I got the look right. And the result is for everyone to see,' he signs off.
