Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra's love story: The emotion that transcends Bollywood and cricket

Harbhajan Singh, the legendary cricketer and Indian spinner known for his powerful performances on the field, and Geeta Basra, the former actress, have quite an adorable love story. From living in denial to falling in love, the two have come a long way since their first encounter. While both of them lived a life filled with glitz, glam and constant attention from the public eye, they managed to make a world of their own. Here’s how the duo’s love story came to fruition.

Harbhajan Singh’s career in cricket had always been a rollercoaster ride. The iconic player so far has played in 467 matches, including 103 test matches. Geeta Basra, on the other hand, was all about life in front of the camera. The actress made her debut in the Bollywood film industry with ‘Dil Diya Hai’ and then went on to work on several successful projects.

Did you know that Harbhajan Singh pursued Basra? The cricketer got to know about Geeta from a song that she had done. He had seen the video and asked his friends about her. After watching her in the music video of ‘Woh Ajnabee’, Singh was smitten with Basra and ended up pursuing her. Somehow, he got his hands on her number but was constantly ignored until Geeta herself texted him back to say congratulations on his T20 World Cup win.

The two finally connected after a year, as Geeta at the time wanted to put all of her focus on her acting career. She was also very cautious about who she got involved with; however, Harbhajan managed to win her over. The two dated for around 8 years, showing a high level of commitment to one another. Even though their relationship started with a lot of challenges, they managed to power through everything.

After almost 8 years of being together, the two finally concluded by finalising their relationship. Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra got married in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by friends, family and loved ones in 2015. The two got married in a traditional Punjabi-style wedding on October 29, 2015, in their hometown, Jalandhar, Punjab.

In 2016, a year after they got married, Harbhajan and Geeta welcomed their first child, their daughter, Hinaya Heer Plaha. After marriage, Geeta also opted to step out of the limelight and put all of her focus on raising and caring for her family. A few years later, the couple welcomed their second child, Jovan Veer Singh Plaha, into the world in 2021. The cricketer even shared the joyful news online by posting a photo of his daughter and son along with the caption “Introducing HEER ka VEER… Jovan Veer Singh Plaha.”

The duo have been happily married for around ten years now and have shown the strength of their love and commitment through the years. Both of them regularly post and share updates about themselves and their family through social media platforms to stay connected with fans and keep everyone updated. In a past 'The Kapil Sharma Show' episode, Geeta Basra even shared how Harbhajan is the right choice for her. She stated that "Bhaiji is very funny. He always keeps on making people laugh. If a boy can make a girl laugh, then this is the biggest quality. The second thing is that as strong as he (Harbhajan) looks from the outside, he is actually very soft at heart."
