Half-truth claims to cryptic posts, controversies courted by ‘The Kashmir Files’

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri directorial ‘The Kashmir Files' is garnering a lot of popularity. But beyond the praise, the film is also facing a lot of controversies. Kapil Sharma landed in trouble for allegedly not promoting the movie on his TV show, while Chhattisgarh CM has blasted the makers of ‘The Kashmir Files´ claiming they have only shown half the truth. Take a look at all the controversies surrounding this film:

Swara Bhasker’s cryptic tweet

Soon after its release, ‘The Kashmir Files’ is being lauded on social media, however Swara Bhasker’s cryptic tweet landed her in trouble. While she had not named anyone, Swara’s post was deemed by netizens as an indirect dig at ‘The Kashmir Files’. The actress had posted, “If you want someone to congratulate you for the ‘success’ of your efforts.. maybe don’t spend the last five years shitting on their heads.. (sic)." Her post was soon flooded with Twitter users trolling her comment.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel: 'The Kashmir Files' shows half-truths

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had a strong reaction to ‘The Kashmir Files’. After watching the movie, he opined, “The entire film is focused on only one family but in the end, the main hero emphasised that not only Hindus, the people of different religions including Buddhists, Muslims, Sikhs were also murdered. But this film has been made to send only one political message that only Kashmiri Pandits were displaced. Half-truth is shown in the film. It is not appropriate to show one side in the film. If they (BJP-led central government) want to do politics through this and prepare for 2024 Lok Sabha polls, then they are taking the country in a very wrong direction.”

Kapil Sharma versus ‘The Kashmir Files’

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri had stirred up a controversy when he reportedly stated that Kapil Sharma had refused to promote ‘The Kashmir Files’ on his comedy show because it 'lacked big stars'. Kapil Sharma was soon trolled by netizens. However, post the film’s release, Anupam Kher clarified on the same and told Times Now that he was invited by the makers of the TV show but he declined the offer as the film’s sensitive subject was not appropriate for a comedy show.

'India not a film, but a reality,' Congress on 'The Kashmir Files'

'The Kashmir Files' also landed in political controversy as Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala made some statement about the film. He said, “Modi ji should tell when will our Kashmiri Pandits be rehabilitated and should give us a date as his government is there both at the Centre and in the state.” He further stated that the PM should reveal how many Kashmiris have been rehabilitated, given jobs, houses and compensation. "India is not a film but a reality. India will not be run by films but by the government's policy and governance," he said. Surjewala also alleged that the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, which is the basis of the movie, happened during the VP Singh government, which was supported by the BJP and hence questioned why the BJP did not withdraw support from the government at that time.
