‘Gully Boy’, ‘2 States’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’: Films rejected by Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor is undoubtedly one of the most versatile actors in Bollywood. Be it playing a Casanova in ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ or a musician in ‘Rockstar’ or essaying a real-life character in ‘Sanju’, trust Ranbir to deliver a stellar performance on screen every time. However, there are also certain films that he rejected in his career, which went on to become blockbusters. Take a look:

‘Band Baaja Baaraat’

‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ marked the big Bollywood debut of Ranveer Singh. However, not many know that it was Ranbir Kapoor who was first approached for the film. While Ranbir rejected the film for reasons best known to him, Ranveer bagged the opportunity by coming on board for the same as their new face. Ranveer received appreciation for his performance from all quarters.

‘Gully Boy’

Ranveer Singh garnered praise for his performance in Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Gully Boy’. The director had wanted Ranbir Kapoor to be a part of the film and had also offered him a role. However, Ranbir reportedly did not want to play a supporting role in a movie that was being headlined by Ranveer, so he did not take up the offer. The film also starred Ranbir’s ladylove Alia Bhatt in the lead role.

‘Delhi Belly’

According to reports, almost every young actor in the industry was approached for the lead role in Aamir Khan’s productional venture, ‘Delhi Belly’. And one of the actors approached was Ranbir Kapoor. However, the actor did not take up the role and it eventually went to Aamir’s nephew Imran Khan. The film received positive reviews from the audience and critics alike.

‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’

Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ is one of the most loved films in Bollywood. While we love all the characters in the film, not everyone was the first choice of the makers. Yes, you read that right! Zoya had reportedly first approached Ranbir Kapoor for the role of Arjun Saluja in the film. However, the actor did not come on board and the role finally went to Hrithik Roshan.

6/7

‘2 States’

The lead role in Abhishek Varman’s ‘2 States’ was reportedly offered to a lot of actors including Ranbir Kapoor before it finally went to Arjun Kapoor. The film was based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel by the same name and starred Alia Bhatt in the lead role. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of Arjun’s career.

‘Dil Dhadakne Do’

Looks like Zoya Akhtar has tried to get Ranbir Kapoor on board for her film every time but in vain. The actor was also approached for a role in her film, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’. He was approached to play the role of Kabir Mehra and even Kareena Kapoor Khan was approached to play the role of his sibling Ayesha Mehra in the film. However, after Ranbir rejected the offer, Bebo, too, reportedly left the project. Their roles were then essayed by Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra.
