Exclusive: Gauahar Khan reacts to Zaid Darbar's acting debut

Choreographer and digital creator Zaid Darbar is preparing to make his acting debut with the upcoming psychological thriller Fangirl. The series, which explores themes of obsession, identity and social media culture, marks a new direction in Darbar’s career. The son of music composer Ismail Darbar, Zaid has primarily been known for his work as a choreographer and content creator. In Fangirl, he plays Karan, an influencer whose public image differs from his private reality.

Speaking about the shift to acting, he says the process has required him to develop a different set of skills.
“As a performer and choreographer, I’ve always connected with storytelling through movement, but acting demands processing emotions in a different way. For Fangirl, I’ve been working on understanding my character, observing people and learning the technical aspects of acting,” he adds.

According to Zaid, acting is something he intends to pursue alongside choreography, though he acknowledges balancing both fields may be challenging.

His actress wife Gauahar Khan is excited about his move into acting and decision to explore a new area of work. “We both understand the demands of this industry, so supporting each other’s ambitions comes naturally to us,” she shares.
