MUMBAI: Channel V, a part of the Star TV Network, on Thursday launched its second reality show, Popstars-2, similar to its earlier nationwide music talent hunt and roll-out of the pop band, Viva.
"The first round of audition test for Popstars-2 will begin in April and would take a month to complete while the final rounds will begin in June," Channel V Chief Operating Officer, Sameer Nair told reporters here.
The new band would consist of five members, a mix of girls and boys in the age group of 18-24 years, and would be selected from over seven cities in India, he added.
"We expect to replicate the success of Viva, an all-girl band and its first album titled `Viva'', which was released in August 2002", Nair said.
Over 5.25 lakh copies of the album were sold during the first eight months of the release with over 50 lakh copies in circulation at present, Channel V vice-president (content and communication), Keertan Adyanthaya said.
A nationwide talent hunt would begin in April in Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata and Mumbai.
The jury comprising Palaash Sen, vocalist of Euphoria, pop diva Mehnaaz and Channel V VJ Purab would shortlist 24 for the new band.
The finalists would be announced in June and the band would make its maiden appearance in August, while its first concert would be in October. The artistes would be on a contract with the music television for a period of three years.
