Border’s battle cry

Based on the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Border (1997) captured national pride. Sunny Deol’s fiery performance and real war-time references made it a cult classic that redefined patriotic cinema in India. It won three National Awards and remains a Republic Day favourite.

2/5

Kesari’s final stand

Kesari (2019), starring Akshay Kumar, recounts the Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 Sikh soldiers fought 10,000 Afghan invaders. The film is known for its historically accurate depiction, intense battle scenes, and a stirring climax that honours one of history’s most underappreciated last stands.

3/5

LOC’s epic scale

LOC: Kargil (2003) is among Bollywood’s longest war films, recreating the Kargil conflict with a huge ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt. It spotlighted multiple regiments and their fallen heroes, bringing real-life valour to mainstream audiences with unflinching grit.

4/5

Raazi’s silent bravery

Raazi (2018) stands out as a spy war film based on the true story of an Indian girl who marries into a Pakistani military family to gather intel. Alia Bhatt’s performance as Sehmat Khan was universally praised, and the film redefined how patriotism is portrayed on screen.

5/5

Shershaah’s immortal glory

Sidharth Malhotra shone in Shershaah (2021), portraying Captain Vikram Batra’s journey during the Kargil War. The line “Yeh dil maange more” became a national slogan. Its realistic action sequences and emotional depth made it one of the most-watched Indian war biopics on OTT platforms.
