Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Bappi Lahiri,: Celebs who contracted Covid-19 this week

The second wave of Covid-19 is wreaking havoc across the country and number of cases is alarmingly rising every day. While a lockdown is still being considered, businesses are grappling with a night curfew and the film industry is trying to shoot as much portions of their upcoming films as possible in case a shutdown is called for again. However, more than 20 actors have already tested positive in less than a month, bringing shoots to a standstill and causing delays. Here's who contracted the virus last week and are currently under home quarantine.

Akshay Kumar is the latest Bollywood actor to have contracted the virus. The actor took to his social media accounts and confirmed the news with the fans. I wish to inform everyone that, earlier this morning, I have tested positive for COVID-19. Following all the protocols I have immediately isolated myself. I'm under home quarantine and have sought necessary medical care. I would sincerely request all those that have come in contact with me to get themselves tested and take care. Back in action very soon!” wrote the actor. Akshay was busy shooting for his film ‘Ram Setu’ along with Nushratt Bharuccha and Jacqueline Fernandez

After beau Ranbir Kapoor, actress-girlfriend Alia Bhatt tested positive too. Alia took to her Instagram story to inform fans that she had contracted the virus. Her statement read, “Hello all, I have tested positive for Covid-19. I have immediately isolated myself and will be under home quarantine. I am following all safety protocols under the advice of my doctors. Grateful for all your love and support. Please stay safe and take care”. Since then, Alia is under home quarantine.

Legendary music composer Bappi Lahiri also tested positive for Covid-19 and has been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital. Hs daughter, Reema Lahiri Bansal confirmed the same in an official statement, “Bappi Da has exercised immense precaution but has been detected with mild Covid symptoms. He has been admitted under the care of Dr Udwadia at Breach Candy Hospital purely as a precautionary measure due to his age. He will be fine and home soon. Thank You for keeping him in your prayers always,” read the statement.

‘Dangal’ star Fatima Sana Shaikh also tested positive for Covid-19 recently. The actress shared a health update with her fans on her Instagram story, writing that she has been experiencing common covid-19 symptoms. She wrote, “Covid sucks. Lost smell and taste.. and a horrible body ache.” Scores of Fatima’s fans wished the actress a speedy recovery.

Despite taking the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, veteran actor Paresh Rawal tested positive for Covid-19. The actor took to his Twitter handle to confirm the same. “Unfortunately, I have tested positive for COVID-19. All those that have come in contact with me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested”, wrote the actor. On March 9, Paresh Rawal had got his first shot. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he had written: "V for vaccines! Thanks to all the doctors and nurses and the front-line health care workers, and the scientists. Thanks, Narendra Modi."
