Abbas-Mustan reveals Nadeem-Shravan wanted Kajol to be removed from Baazigar: 'They said won't do the film'

Director duo Abbas-Mustan disclosed that musicians Nadeem-Shravan were against Kajol starring in ‘Baazigar’. In a recent interview, the producers disclosed that Kajol was locked up before they even asked the music directors to work on the film. The music directors were willing to sign the film but on the condition that they would replace Kajol. The reason behind this was a personal conflict between the actress and Nadeem-Shravan.

In 1993, ‘Baazigar’ was released that starred Shah Rukh Khan in the lead along with Kajol and Shilpa Shetty playing the pivotal roles. Johnny Lever and Dilip Tahil were also part of the film. Director Abbas Mustan, also known as Abbas Alibhai Burmawalla and Mustan Alibhai Burmawalla, disclosed in the interview that Nadeem-Shravan had requested that Kajol be taken out of the movie or else they wouldn't work on it. The director said that they declined their condition.

In an interview with Radio Nasha, Abbas shared, “Nadeem-Shravan used to know us very well. We went and met them and discussed about the film. The reason why they opted out of the film, we can’t clearly remember.” However, Mustan claimed to have remembered the problem.

He said, “Nadeem-Shravan has some personal issue with Kajol and Tanuja ji. They asked us if we can change the female lead. We refused because we had already committed to her. We had finalised Kajol and she had also signed the contract. We refused to make any changes. Picture banege toh Kajol toh rahege he. They responded to this by saying, ‘Toh hum nahi rahege.”

While the director duo was unable to recall the reason behind their feud, reports claimed Nadeem-Shravan had an incident with Kajol and her mother on one of their visits to their residence. Tanuja is said to have behaved in a way that the musical duet believed was offensive, which led to their fallout.

The loss of Nadeem-Shravan was gained by Anu Malik. When the music composer joined the team, he produced a number of hits, including ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein’, ‘Kitabein Bahut Si’, ‘Baazigar O Baazigar’, and ‘Chhupana Bhi Nahi Aata’.
