A Bollywood blockbuster that failed despite Amitabh Bachchan’s cameo

1/5

Big budget, disappointing returns

Notably made on a high budget of about ₹25–27 crore, which was quite a lot for Bollywood movies in 2007, 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' had a difficult time at the box office. Even though the film had a lot was invested in it, the film did not do well. The domestic collections fell short of costs, and even the worldwide gross couldn't save it from becoming a commercial failure.

2/5

A power-packed star cast

The movie had an all-star cast consisting of Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol, and Lara Dutta, and Amitabh Bachchan even made a special appearance just for star value. In light of all this star power, it should have been a colossal hit, but in the end, the film did not resonate with many.

3/5

Music that outshone the movie

The soundtrack of 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom', scored by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy and written by Gulzar, took off in popularity. Songs like the title track and "Ticket to Hollywood" went on to become chartbusters and took over music charts. Ironically, the songs became cultural monotone steals, but the film did not clearly rise to the occasion or the vibe of the music.

4/5

Visually grand but weak storyline

The film earned kudos for its stylish visuals, colorful sets, and exotic international locations. Unfortunately, audiences and critics alike thought the story lacked depth and a clear path. The screenplay didn't provide enough content to immerse the viewer; this is one of those films that looked good but, sadly, failed to leave a lasting effect.

5/5

Amitabh Bachchan’s cameo couldn’t save it

Amitabh Bachchan's cameo role was supposed to generate some additional energy to the movie, but it was too little too late. Despite having a larger-than-life presence, the depleted story and bad word-of-mouth killed it fast. Jhoom Barabar Jhoom is often regarded as a big-budget Bollywood movie that failed to tap into the many positives emanating from it.
