The Ganesh Festival is one of the most special occasions for the devotees where the families and the communities gather to enjoy the festivity. And during these auspicious days, watching movies which depicts the spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi would be fulfilling. In whatever angle they portray dedication, kinship, or the feast, these movies serve as a great watch. Here are the five films that you can enjoy during Ganesh festival :

Agneepath (2012): A Typology of Revenge and Loyalty

Many might remember Bollywood movie “Agneepath” directed by Karan Malhotra which has one of the finest look of Ganesh Chaturthi in Bollywood. Featuring Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt the movie is a gripping tale of reprisal and atonement. The song ‘Deva Shree Ganesha’ which is picturised on the Ganesh festival is easily one of the most appealing fabulous looking and feel good number in the movie. This way it depicts the devotion as well as the victory of the noble protagonists over the evil villains, thus it is appropriate to watch it during the course of the festival.

Vaastav (1999): The story in question is rather harsh and bitter, yet it contains some elements of faith.

“Vaastav”, directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, is a crime based movie which stars Sanjay Dutt. While the movie is about the journey of a man in the crime world it has one of the most iconic scenes of Ganesh Chaturthi in Bollywood. The song “Sindoor Lal Chadayo” is very important in the movie as it displays the deep-rooted religious spirit in the life of the hero despite all sorts of disturbances in his life. For these reasons therefore, the story as presented in the film together with a portrayal of faith makes the movie very appealing during Ganesh Chaturthi period.

Don (2006): A classic piece of literature that has originated a new genre of literary work gets a holiday twist from one of its most prominent authors.

"Don," directed by Farhan Akhtar and starring Shah Rukh Khan, is a stylish remake of the classic 1978 film. There is an action-filled Ganesh Chaturthi celebration which is a highlight of the movie. The chasing scene, when police try to arrest Don during the festival is very entertaining and reveals the mood and setting rightly during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai. The combination of thriller and celebrations would be fun to watch and thus “Don” would be the right pick for the festival.

"ABCD: ‘ABCD Any Body Can Dance’, is a dance film starring 5 talented dancers and created by Remo D’Souza, A n entrepreneurship and arts vision of art and devotion. There is also a Ganesh Chaturthi celebration regarding the film with the song and dance number “Shambhu Sutaya. ” This part is very lively and energetic, as one would expect from a music video of a festival. This film is ideal for viewers who like to dance and would like to ‘feel’ the festival with energetic rhythm and accompanying moves.

Shor in the City (2010): It is possible to find and write about a slice of life even in the midst of festivities.

‘Shor in the City’ – A dark comedy-drama film which was released in 2012 by the directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D. K. , having the backdrop of Ganesh Chaturthi festival at Mumbai. This makes the audience see the concept of a festival from a variety of perspectives through narrating different people’s experiences with the film. The portrayal of Ganesh festival especially in the backdrop of a crowded city gives the movie an edge of a reality feel. Given that, it is not a typical movie that one gets to watch when looking forward to enjoy festive films alone, though it can be considered as an option for anyone who is interested in movies about life during festivals.
