'War 2': Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani's action film breaks 5 major Box Office records - Deets inside

Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani’s 'War 2' turned into an event film with its grand multilingual release on August 14. Despite facing tough competition from Rajinikanth’s 'Coolie', it found its audience in the Hindi and Telugu markets, while Tamil remained dominated by the latter. With a massive budget to recover and mixed opinions among audiences, 'War 2' smashed several records on its first day.

According to Sacnilk, 'War 2' took an opening of Rs 52 crore in India alone. From becoming Hrithik and Kiara’s biggest opener to landing the third spot on the Spyverse success list, the Ayan Mukerji directorial set new benchmarks.

With an opening of Rs 52 crore, 'War 2' has left Vicky Kaushal’s blockbuster 'Chhaava' far behind. The Laxman Utekar-directed historical film had an opening of Rs 33.10 crore. This huge margin shows how eagerly audiences were waiting for the Hrithik-Jr NTR action spectacle. It appears that the combination of big stars, high-octane action, and a popular franchise helped 'War 2' make a strong mark from day one.

By beating 'Ek Tha Tiger', 'Tiger Zinda Hai', and 'Tiger 3', 'War 2' claimed the third spot in the production house's spyverse franchise. Only Shah Rukh Khan’s 'Pathaan', which opened at Rs 57 crore, and Hrithik’s prequel 'War', which opened at Rs 53.35 crore, remain ahead.

Though 'War 2' couldn’t beat 'Coolie' on its first day, it still grabbed the second-biggest opening of the year. By defeating 'Chhaava' and pushing it further down, the Hrithik-Jr NTR starrer movie showed its strong pull among audiences in India.

'War 2' has also become Hrithik Roshan’s biggest worldwide opener. The original 'War' earned Rs 78 crore globally on its first day, while the sequel collected Rs 84 crore. Hrithik’s star power and the film’s action-packed appeal have made this release a worldwide success, setting a new personal record for the actor.

For Kiara Advani, 'War 2' is now her highest opener. The film has surpassed her previous hits, 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' and 'Kabir Singh'. Over the opening weekend, the film has already crossed Rs 170 crore in India, giving strong competition to Rajinikanth’s 'Coolie'. Alongside Hrithik and Jr NTR, the film also features Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor.
