'Oh My God 2' (OMG 2) starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles, saw good growth on Saturday, propelling its 2-Day collection to an impressive Rs 25 crore, the makers said in an official statement.
According to reports, the film had a 45% jump in collections on its first Saturday. The good reviews and great audience feedback helped boost the collections from an estimated Rs 9.25 crore nett (Rs 10.26 crore gross) on day 1 to an estimated Rs 13.25 crore nett (15.30 crore gross).
The growth in business came from all sectors. According to the numbers, the film managed to woo the audience even in the mass circuits, which were dominated by 'Gadar 2' screenings.
The jump in collections in the Gujarat/Saurashtra sector was said to be 'very good'. The belt drew in good numbers for the first part of the OMG franchise. With reports indicating that the film is heading towards a 'massive Sunday', 'OMG 2' should emerge as a HIT.
As reported earlier, trade experts stated that the collections of 'OMG 2' would have been much higher, had the film waited it out instead of clashing with 'Gadar 2'. The clash has seemingly eaten into the huge numbers that the film could have achieved, had it released a week later.
Nonetheless, the film will enjoy an extend weekend with the Independence Day holiday on Tuesday. Unlike 'Gadar 2', which is being driven by the fan-frenzy around the film, 'OMG 2' is relying strongly on word of mouth. The film's 'A' rating may have also played a part in affecting the numbers.
'OMG 2' touches upon various issues of teenagers and the importance of sex education. The film is billed as a spiritual sequel of 'OMG - Oh My God!', starring Kumar and Paresh Rawal, which was released in 2012.
