Whoever cribbed about theatre festival bringing in plays in their regional language, just had to be a part of the play Macbeth to realise the power of visual media. And with the kind of light, sound, brilliant direction and acting showcased by the artistes, the fact that the play was in Malayali was of hardly any concern to the audience.
No wonder then why the crowd, even though they found it difficult to comprehend the story, sat put till the end only to applaud the different shades of this tragic play.
SN Singh, former vice-principal, of a private college, who seemed totally engrossed watching the act, when asked how he liked the play said I havent read Macbeth, so I havent been able to understand the play. But Im amazed at how well the play is directed and thats what compelled me to sit through.
And thats what the play director Jyotish MGs aim was as he said: In theatre visual language counts far more than the spoken language. Undoubtedly, with the play witnessing a jam-packed audience unlike the previous day that staged an AssSamese play.
