Community Health Takes Centre Stage at Labour Day Programme in Metro Station
A free eye check-up camp and blood donation drive were organised at Dum Dum Metro Railway Station on May 1 to mark International Labour Day, drawing participation from railway employees, commuters and members of the public.The initiative was organised by the Metro Railway Men’s Union under the leadership of Shri Sujit Ghosh, who also contributed to the cause as a blood donor. The programme aimed to promote community welfare and encourage public participation in healthcare initiatives.The eye screening camp benefited around 96 individuals, providing them with basic vision assessments and guidance on eye health. The blood donation drive also received an enthusiastic response, with 50 volunteers donating blood during the event.Several senior Metro Railway officials joined the campaign, including Shri S. S. Kannan, Secretary to the General Manager and Chief Public Relations Officer, and Shri Dipto Saha, Deputy Chief Operations Manager (O&M), who were among those who donated blood. Metro passengers also came forward to support the initiative.The event reflected the spirit of service and social responsibility associated with International Labour Day, bringing together employees and commuters in a collective effort to support healthcare and save lives.
