2/6

‘Sinners’

This 2025 film, starring Michael B. Jordan, is a supernatural horror film directed by Ryan Coogler. As aforementioned, the film has made history in the Oscars with a record-breaking 16 nominations.
The movie is set in the 1932 Mississippi Delta and follows twin brothers who return to their hometown after years away with hopes of opening a juke joint for their community. But soon they discover a sinister supernatural force tied to their past. The film follows themes of faith, temptation, and resistance against systemic racism.

3/6

‘Bugonia’

This sci-fi dark comedy has bagged 4 Oscar nominations. ‘Bugonia’ is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and stars Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.

The film follows two conspiracy theorists who kidnap a wealthy CEO (Stone), believing she's an alien responsible for planetary destruction, leading to a bizarre standoff exploring themes of faith, corporate greed, technology, and humanity's self-destructive nature.

4/6

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ is the latest installment of the franchise, and has been nominated for the ‘Best Visual Effects’ for Oscars 2026.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, the film follows Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali as a team seeking dinosaur DNA for a heart disease cure on an equatorial island. ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ is an adventure with darker, horror-infused action while also giving nods to classic Jurassic Park, aiming for a fresh story.

5/6

‘Blue Moon’

‘Blue Moon’ marks the first Oscar nomination for actor Ethan Hawke and also for ‘Best Original Screenplay’. The film is an American biographical comedy-drama directed by Richard Linklater. The film follows the final days of legendary Broadway lyricist Lorenz "Larry" Hart.
The film takes place in real time on March 31, 1943, during the opening night party for Oklahoma!, the first hit musical produced by Hart’s long-time partner Richard Rodgers with new collaborator Oscar Hammerstein II. While the theater world celebrates, a closeted, alcoholic, and deeply insecure Hart hides away at Sardi's in New York, confronting his self-destruction, career irrelevance, and failed, unrequited love for his protege, Elizabeth Weiland, played by Margaret Qualley.

6/6

‘Weapons’

With ‘Weapons’, Amy Madigan received her second Oscar nod. The 2025 horror film is directed by Zach Cregger.

The story revolves around 17 children from the same class who mysteriously vanish at 2:17 AM, seemingly controlled by a witch (Amy Madigan) living with one boy, Alex, leading to the town's descent into chaos, revealing themes of manipulation, trauma, and how people become "weapons" themselves, following a nonlinear mystery structure.
