Sydney Sweeney responds to mixed reviews for ‘Christy’: I did this for her, and she loves it, so I’m good’
Sydney Sweeney recently starred in the film ‘Christy’, which is based on the story of the first lady of boxing, Christy Martin. The actress recently opened up about starring in the film and even shared what she thought of the mixed reviews about the film as well.
Sweeney added, “I knew it was going to be an immense challenge and weight on my shoulders,” while also sharing that even though she was not hesitant about playing the role, the story itself was extremely intimidating for her. She also revealed that she had been heavily trained in boxing to ensure that the film sequences are as authentic as possible. Not only that, but Sweeney’s transformation also included wearing brunette hair wigs, brown contact lenses, and gaining a lot of weight as well.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the star actress revealed that when she first got her hands on the script, she was completely unaware of who Christy Martin was. She revealed that it prompted her to ensure that the woman’s story is told, no matter what.Sweeney added, “I knew it was going to be an immense challenge and weight on my shoulders,” while also sharing that even though she was not hesitant about playing the role, the story itself was extremely intimidating for her. The actress dived deep into what went into training to play the boxer on the big screen. She revealed, “Every single fight that you see in the movie is one of Christy’s real fights, so it wasn’t like I was just learning boxing and we were randomly making up all these fights. We actually pulled real combinations from her specific fights and incorporated that into every fight in the movie, so I was learning how to box like Christy, her exact moves, everything.”Sydney Sweeney talks about the film’s reception
The star also addressed the mixed reception that the film had been facing ever since it was released in theatres around the world. She stated that “I put a lot of love and hard work into this, so it feels good that people are recognizing that and that the story is resonating with people. But for me, I’ve always said Christy’s opinion is the only one that matters to me.
