It was not just on a whim that Bryan Adams decided to callhis latest album Room Service. Busy while touring Europe, Adams andhis group actually recorded several songs in his hotel room. "The entirerecording was done either backstage or in hotel rooms while touring Europe. Andhence the title," he laughs. But with the attention they had tosuffer from the hotel staff over a period of time, the group members realisedthat the premises of the recording studio would’ve ideally been morecomfortable. "We used to start in the morning in the hotel room andthe waiters, who would come in, would get curious, especially seeing all thatequipment. By dinner time, besides our band members, there would be these wholeload of people watching us do our act," he recalls. It has been along time since Adams has released an album. After his Best Of Bryan Adamsrelease in 2000, Adams had been very busy with his performing tours and thesoundtrack of the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron."I firststarted working on my new album in 2001 in Paris and then later scrapped it, asthe movie got me very busy," he says.
Because of his busy schedule, the Canadian rockstar has often been accused of being a ruthless careerist, likepop icon Madonna. However, he denies any such allegations. "I likethe idea of creating something out of nothing and enjoy the process a greatdeal. Rather than putting it as being ruthless to others, I would say that Ihave been ruthless to myself, especially when it comes to mywork."However, Adams has managed somehow to find time to nurture hisfavourite past time — photography. With this new album, one of the littleknown facts about the singer will become visible — his love forphotography. In the past, Adams has published two volumes, theproceeds of which were donated to research on cancer. This time, the new albumcover has been shot by Adams himself. The album has been produced and written byAdams, with mixing by Bob Clearmountain. As Room Service readies forrelease in India, Adams speaks of his regret at not being able to learn how toplay the sitar that was gifted to him quite a while back. Although he hasvisited India several times, his knowledge of Indian classical music continuesto be limited. But what continues to find favour with him is theIndian curry. "It is not just me alone, even my band members have developed thetaste for it and simply love it," he concludes.(##includemsid=43376741,type=11 ##)
