Tollywood celebs who inherited acting talent from their family

In Bollywood, it’s a common trend to become an actor following the footsteps of the forefather. However, Bengali cinema too enjoys a fair share of its actors who inherit their talent from the stars of the bygone era. Their identity didn't give them any extra mileage. They have to pass a litmus test to prove their mettle but time and again these actors have proved acting is in their gene. Prosenjit Chatterjee and Biswajit Chatterjee

Despite being the son of Tollywood and Bollywood's heartthrob Biswajit, Prosenjit Chatterjee’s journey to the top wasn’t without a struggle. The father-son jodi remained in strained terms for many a year. However, no one would have any doubt where from the most admired Bengali superstar got his good looks and talent. Over the years, Prosenjit has transformed himself into every director’s automatic choice.

Saswata Chatterjee and Subhendu Chatterjee

His smile could charm an entire generation, that’s the magic a 47-year-old Saswata Chatterjee creates. Apart from being a practicing doctor, his father Subhendu Chatterjee will always be one of the most handsome and talented actors of Bengali classics 'Aranyer Dinratri' and 'Chadmabeshi'. His son Saswata Chatterjee is now seen as one of the finest actors in Bengal, who can portray a protagonist, antagonist, or even a comic relief with equal brilliance.

Koel Mallick and Ranjit Mallick

Ranjit Mallick was a leading actor in his time who later became a character artist delivering hits after hits. With his daughter beautiful Koel's debut in Tollywood with 2003 hit ‘Nater Guru, the senior Mallick had the satisfaction of being the proud father of Bengal's number one heroin. The actress since her debut opposite Jeet gave a number of box-office hits with Jeet and Dev throughout the years.

Raima Sen and Suchitra Sen

Suchitra Sen, the icon of beauty, has always remained the reigning queen in the history of Bengali cinema. While her daughter Munmun Sen failed to live up to the expectations, Raima, the elder granddaughter of the Mahanayika, is successfully carrying out the legacy. Raima has established herself as an elite actress in several urban and parallel Bengali movies. And, we can't but notice the uncanny similarities between these two beauties belonging to different timelines.

Swastika Mukherjee and Santu Mukherjee

Santu Mukherjee has been a popular face of Bengali cinema, television, and stage over the years. Swastika made her big screen debut as a female lead in 'Mastan' where she shared the screen space with Jeet. Despite a troubled personal life, the adorable beauty has won a number of national and international awards for movies like 'Anubrato Bhalo Acho', 'Bhooter Bhabiswat', 'Take One' and others. However, from Tollywood hunk Jeet to charming Parambrata Chatterjee, all entered her life and then moved on.

Arjun Chakraborty, Gaurav Chakraborty and Sabyasachi Chakraborty

Just like their father, Gaurav and Arjun, the sons of Sabyasachi Chakraborty, made their acting debut on the small screen. Both of them first featured in Rituparno Ghosh's pet project 'Gaaner Opare' and went on to become household names. Being the son of Feluda, Gaurav decided to play Byomkesh of small screen while Arjun enjoys a decent fandom juggling between his TV and big screen roles. The Chakraborty brothers were recently seen in Birsa Dasgupta’s ‘Crisscross’.

Abir Chatterjee and Phalguni Chatterjee

Abir Chatterjee's father Phalguni Chatterjee is a stalwart in Bengali theatre industry and a popular name in both the TV and film industry. Abir has revealed so many times that he drew a lot of inspiration from his father who always encouraged his son to launch his acting career. Abir made his acting debut with a TV serial directed by Raj Chakraborty in which he played a daredevil cop. He made his Tollywood debut with 2009 film ‘Cross Connection’ directed by Abhijit Guha and Sudeshna Roy.
