After having scored music for TMCs audiovisual campaign, composer Drono Acharya has now gone ahead and shown interest in all things arty. On Monday, he booked an artwork by Mamata Banerjee for a sum of 2 lakh and hasnt stopped beaming ever since.

Ask him what made him go for Maa , as the artwork is titled, and he says, That I possess a painting by the future CM gave me a high. So, first the jingles and now the artwork, does that bring his political alignment to the fore? It doesnt matter even if it does. I support her cause like many in Bengal. But just because Ive bought the artwork doesnt make me a TMC sympathizer, he shoots back.
Singing paens to the Railway Minister, Drono adds, For somebody as busy as Mamata Banerjee, its very difficult to find time out for pursuing other interests. It surprises me the way she does the balancing act. About the artwork, Drono says what is important is the ability to convey on canvas what the firebrand politico feels.
But doesnt the gesture tantamount to the expectation of getting more work, now that he has done TMCs jingles? Not at all. Whatever money Ive made is through music. What kind of work can a political party provide me with? At the end of the day, my music speaks a thousand words. If Jeet Gannguli doesnt give a hit in the next five movies, no one will remember his past works and give him a second chance. Its the same with me.
Drono, whos all set to buy a new apartment, says the artwork will adorn the prime space on one of the walls of his drawing room. I appreciate the work for what it is, he says. Thats called art for art sake and well leave it at that.
