Kaushik Ganguly to direct a rom-com ‘Motamuti Love Story’

While, his latest directorial ‘Nagarkirtan’ is being appreciated from all corners, Kaushik Ganguly is set to direct a rom-com titled ‘Motamuti Love Story’. It will see Kaushik himself opposite Aparajita Auddy in the lead. Now we hear the other lead pair will be Sohini Sarkar and Rudranil Ghosh. According to industry sources, Jaya Ahsan was supposed to play the character Sohini is playing but the Bangladeshi actress later backed out. Interestingly with ‘Motamuti Love Story’, Kaushik Ganguly is once again working with SVF while most of his recent films have been made under the banner of Surinder Films. In fact, His next ‘Jyeshthoputro’ is being produced by Surinder Films.

Upcoming Bengali comedy movies to watch out for

Need a laugh? Are you looking for the best Bengali comedy films to watch out for? After a long day at work, there's nothing better than unwinding and de-stressing with a good comedy movie as they are a great mood-lifter. Last year, there were few comedy movies like ‘Haami’, ‘Hoichoi Unlimited’, ‘Michael’ or ‘Honeymoon’ made us laugh out loud. So, for any Bengali movie buff this year as well a hand full of comedy capers awaits. The recently released ‘Baccha Shoshur’ received a great response. Thai Curry

Directed by Ankit Aditya, this fun-filled friendship movie stars Soham Chakraborty, Rudranil Ghosh, Hiraan Chatterjee in the lead roles. Bidya Sinha Mim, Poulomi Das, Trina Saha who is making her big screen debut, will be play the leading ladies in this comedy caper. It’s a story of three friends – the owner of a shack in Thailand (Rudranil), a real estate broker and an average young guy. The narrative moves on based on some hilarious incidents in these three friends’ life. Shot entirely in Thailand, ‘Thai Curry is releasing on March 1.

Hobu Chandra Raja Gobu Chandra Mantri

This film starring Saswata Chatterjee and Kharaj Mukherjee in the lead is being directed by Aniket Chattopadhyay. The social satire is based on Dakhinaranjan Mitra Majumdar's two stories ‘Hobu Chandra Raja’ and ‘Sarkar’er Chhele’ and will be made under the banner of Dev’s home production. Swaswata will be seen as the Raja and Kharaj will essay the mantri’s role. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalized. We hear the entire shooting will be done in Hyderabad.

Hullor

Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s upcoming comedy caper ‘Hullor’ revolves around a shop and the age-old cold war between South and North Kolkata. While Soham Chakraborty and Srabanti Chatterjee are residents of South Kolkata, Om and Darshana Banik are from North Kolkata. Soham plays a gharjamai to a business tycoon and Srabanti is a doting wife. Subhasish Mukhopadhyay plays a funny astrologer who always looks to cheat people. Santilal Mukhopadhyay will be seen as a Maa Kali devotee who wants to build a mandir for Maa Kali.

Googly

This one is again directed by Abhimanyu Mukherjee and stars Soham - Srabanti in the lead. The first look poster was dropped online recently and it features a naughty kid bringing back the ‘Home Alone’ memories. ‘Googly’ is bankrolled by Surinder Films and the comedy flick is eyeing a summer release. While the story, screenplay and dialogues are by director Abhimanyu Mukherjee himself, Savvy has composed the music.

Teko

Looks like Abhimanyu Mukherjee is on a roll this year. He has a social satire ‘Teko’ in the pipeline as well. The unusual pair of Ritwick Chakraborty and Srabanti Chatterjee will be seen as Alokesh and Meena, two people who are obsessed with their hair! The plot sees a twist when Alokesh (Ritwick) starts losing his hair after he applies hair oil. While elaborating on her character, Srabanti had earlier said she always has a fascination for cool hairstyles. It will be interesting to see whether the audience welcomes this fresh pair. Abhimanyu feels his film will raise social awareness too. How the commercials influence people is something to closely watch in ‘Teko’.

Bibaho Obhijaan

After Crisscross Birsa Dasgupta is all geared up for his next Bibaho Obhijaan’ which will start rolling soon. It’s a rom-com that tells the story of two married couples played by Ankush, Mimi Chakraborty, Rudranil Ghosh, and Sohini Sarkar. After Crisscross, Mimi and Sohini will share screen in yet another film directed by Birsa. Beside playing a crucial role, Rudranil Ghosh has also penned the story, script, screenplay, and dialogue for the upcoming venture produced by SVF.
