Some crazy facts about ‘Bornoporichoy’ before you watch the thriller

This is the first time Bengal’s two of the most desirable men are plotted each other in a film. Abir Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta’s names are enough to grab the attention. To add a cherry on top, it’s a thriller! Yes’ we are talking about Mainak Bhaumik’s ‘Bornoporichoy’ which releases today (July 26). The story follows police detective Dhanonjoy who once lost everything that was dear to him during an obsessive yet fruitless pursuit of a serial killer named Arko. When his nemesis resurfaces years later, Dhanonjoy embarks on one final crusade to end Arko`s killing spree. Sounds interesting? Well, before you watch the gripping thriller, here's ETimes giving you a heads up about some interesting behind the scene secrets which will surely make you excited.

The story is like a cat and mouse game!

As we have seen in the trailer, it seems Abir’s series of crimes forces the administration to employ Jisshu back who was serving a suspension for reasons yet unknown. The crimes puzzle him as the killer with a weird personality leaves behind a symbol, more precisely an alphabet, every time he strikes. The story revolves around the killer Arko and a cop Dhananjay like a cat and mouse game. While Abir’s character believes he is controlling the game, Jisshu as the determined cop challenges him manipulating each of his moves. So, get ready for some bone-chilling crime scenes and equally thrilling chase sequences. Priyanka Sarkar will be seen as Jisshu’s wife in the film playing a crucial role in his past.

Is Abir’s character a completely negative one?

Although the trailer portrays Abir Chatterjee as a villain in a killing spree, director Mainak Bhaumik says It’s not a negative role. “His character has shades of grey and it’s a little different from what he has done before. Both Abir and Jisshu are like two sides of a coin. There’s no positive/negative here, but both are grey characters. This remains even though one is a cop and the other a killer. For me, it was interesting to see Abir in this role. Keeping in mind his popularity as three detectives — Byomkesh, Feluda and Sonada — I wanted to switch roles for him. The reason why Abir gets selected for detective roles is because he gives the vibes of a nice Bangali guy. I have kept that intact and turned the angle,” explains Mainak.

Anupam did something unique for Mainak

Anupam Roy has composed for a thriller at the very beginning of his career – in Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Baishe Srabon’. So, scoring for a thriller was nothing new for him. His songs are usually written before the films are made but for Mainak’s film Anupam did something unique. “With Mainak, it didn’t happen this way. Once he went on the floors, he wanted songs from me. He needed a song for Jisshu and Priyanka when they were breaking up. I had to create Bishonno Chimney at that point. Then, I had a song, Protibeshi, which went with a situation. Mainak needed a song to describe Jisshu and Abir’s relationship. So, I came up with this from my collection,” reveals the acclaimed singer-songwriter.

Abir loves his character Arko, even though it has dark shades

“Beside the script of ‘Bornoporichoy’, the role I am playing also interested me. My last film with Mainak was Bedroom in 2011. We kept in touch over addas, but never got the opportunity to work together on a suitable script again. Between Jisshu and I, either of us could have done any of the roles. The challenge as well as the plus point was that people would not think of me in Arko’s character. I have a monologue in the film. We debated whether we should keep it in a fast-paced thriller. But it was important for the story to proceed. We also tried to be subtle in our expression and not go overboard with the acting,” explains Abir while sharing with us what went behind the scene.

Why the title ‘Bornoporichoy’?

“It’s nice to have an odd name for a crime thriller or a mystery movie. Playing with language is an important aspect of this story. I won’t say much because it will reveal the story. See, we have already seen a famous Hollywood thriller ‘Silence Of The Lambs’. Who could have thought this would be name of a thriller? So, go for the odd to make a thriller successful,” said Mainak.

Abir had to jump from eighth floor

Bollywood action director Sunil Rodrigues, who has amazed us with his works in ‘Drishyam’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘Mukkabaaz’, ‘Singham Returns’, ‘Happy New Year’ and ‘Simmba’ among other films, was the man in charge to design the action sequences in ‘Bornoporichoy’, which sees Bengal’s two most desirable men, Jisshu Sengupta and Abir Chatterjee sharing the screen in lead roles for the first time. Speaking about his experience Sunil said, “This is my first Bengali film and I loved working in it. I must say that both Abir and Jisshu are flexible actors and did all the fight sequences with ease. I was impressed how Jisshu did the fight stunts with the bike and Abir jumped from the eight floor. Both were fantastic. Not for once did they say that they won’t do any specific fight sequence. The director too was super cool.”
