Bengali actors rocking Bollywood with acting prowess

Bong actors rocking Bollywood with their charm, grace and acting prowess is not a new phenomenon. In fact, there have been times when Bollywood has successfully ridden on the popularity of Bong actresses in the Industry. Be it Saswata Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Parambrata Chattopadhyay or Swastika Mukherjee, Paoli Dam – They are making this Bengali bandwagon in Bollywood more exciting with their stellar performances.

Jisshu Sengupta

Be it Bikram Roy, husband of Rani Mukerji’s tough-talking top cop in ‘Mardaani’ and its sequel or husband of Kangana Ranaut’s legendary Rani Lakshmibai in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019), Jisshu has excelled in roles of independent-minded women characters’ partners over the last few years. Even his recent act in 'Durgamati' has received a lot of praise. The dashing actor is also a hit on OTT platforms as well playing some significant characters in the past few years. He had stepped into Bollywood with a significant body of work in Bengali film industry. This includes films with the likes of Rituparno Ghosh and Srijit Mukherji.

Paoli Dam

No, ‘Hate Story’ did not get the box-office soaring, but Paoli's dare-bare act sure got screens blazing and directors noticing. Then she did another film with Vikram Bhatt's banner, ‘The Ankur Arora Murder Case’, which received a lukewarm response. Her effortless acting in ‘Bulbbul’ and ‘Kaali’ raised quite a few eyebrows giving her appreciation from both critics and cine buffs.

Parambrata Chattopadhyay

Parambrata Chattopadhyay says he may have missed out on some great opportunities in Hindi cinema but the movies that come to him from Mumbai are ‘handpicked’ and by directors who really want to work with him. One of the biggest names in Bengali cinema, Parambrata made his Hindi film debut with Sujoy Ghosh's thriller ‘Kahaani’ in 2012. His other Hindi projects include ‘Gangs of Ghosts’, ‘Yaara Silly Silly’ and ‘Pari’, where he worked with actor-producer Anushka Sharma. His last Bollywood outing Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi also received critical acclaim.

Swastika Mukherjee

The talented beauty, who has steadfastly refused in her two-decade-long career to be just a pretty face and carved a niche through meaningful roles in quality films, has been a part of critically acclaimed films like ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshi' and ‘Dil Bechera’. Her captivating performances in some popular web series like ‘Patal Lok’, ‘Black Widows’ have melted more hearts than one can imagine. During a recent interview, the seasoned actress even said “it took me 20 years to get noticed at the national level”.

Saswata Chatterjee

Saswata Chatterjee has often been regarded as the one-man army in Bengali industry. Be it the protagonist, antagonist, or even a comic character, he has the reputation to pull off any critical character with accuracy and control. Whole India may know him as the cold-blooded killer Bob Biswas, but as any Bengali movie lover would tell you, Saswata has been delivering unbelievable performances for years now. He was last seen in Sushant Singh Rajput starrer ‘Dil Bechara’. The terrific actor’s next Bollywood outing is Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Dobaara’.
