Gargee RoyChowdhury's five unmissable performances

Not only has Gargee Roy Chowdhury played key roles in successful big banner movies but has also appeared in smaller films with relatively new talented filmmakers. Known for portraying strong characters on screen, the actress has managed to carve a niche of her own in an industry where most of the actresses end up as the glam quotient of a big-budget film. As the versatile actress celebrates her birthday today we take a look at five spectacular performances by Gargee Roy Chowdhury.

2/6

'Jyeshthoputro'

Gargee’s character Sudeshna is perhaps the sorted and balanced voice in this story of emotional turmoil, nicely crafted by director Kaushik Ganguly. Her stoic silences are good but her gaze reminds you more of actress Gargee than the character Sudeshna.

3/6

'Ramdhanu'

'Ramdhanu' is a simple tale of the complex emotions parents go through while trying to get their child admitted into the best school possible. Gargi is virtually flawless as a mother whose ‘friends’ are driving her up the wall with news of their kids making it into different schools. Her subtle chemistry and understanding with her husband, too, is clearly visible.

4/6

'Meghnad Badh Rahasya'

Gargee delivers the poised and understated emotions of a stiff upper-lip Indrani (a National Award-winning actress) with flair. The actresses’ inherent gravity works wonders playing the wife of Ashimava Bose (Sabyasachi Chakrabarty), an Indo-Anglian sci-fi writer who also teaches at Oxford.

5/6

‘Haami’

In this sequel to ‘Ramdhanu’, you have a funny Laltu Biswas (Shiboprosad Mukherjee) and Mitali Biswas (Gargee Roy Chowdhury) — a couple that's recently seen riches due to a flourishing furniture business. Gargee once again wins our hearts with her natural acting.

6/6

'Sraboner Dhara'

The scenes between Soumitra Chatterjee and Gargee Roy Chowdhury (playing husband and wife) will give you hope amid despair. Both the actors played them well as expected. Soumitra is brilliant once again. His lost gaze and helpless mumblings very well portray an Alzheimer's patient. Gargee is equally brilliant in playing a wife’s desperate attempt to save her husband.
