Eminent personalities from different walks of life gathered at Rabindra Sadan on Saturday to pay a tribute to legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who passed away on November 15 this year.
The event, Naam... Jibon, which was organised by his theatre group, Mukhomukhi, was anchored by theatre personality Sohan Bandyopadhyay. Soumitra’s wife Deepa Chatterjee remembered her first meeting with the actor.
She also talked about how she loved his recitation and driving skills. “I will not thank you for coming here today. We'll only remember Soumitra with gratitude,” she said.
Daughter Poulomi Chattopadhyay said, “My father may not be there physically but we don't feel alone because today everyone who loved him has embraced us."
The meeting began with Sraboni Sen’s song Tumi Ki Keboli Chhobi. Sohan shared anecdotes about the actor as reminisced by legendary dramatist Mohit Chattopadhyay and many others. Srijato talked about the love that Soumitra harboured for poetry more than anything else.
Srikanto Acharya sang, Esho Esho Aamar Ghore. Musician Upal Sengupta talked about a New Year eve when Soumitra Chatterjee regaled them with stories of Chhabi Biswas and others. Filmmaker Atanu Ghosh talked about 10 masterclasses he hosted for Soumitra. He recalled what a brilliant singer Soumitra was. Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee read out a poem, Sayantan, by
Soumitra Chatterjee, and a short piece by Brata Chakraborty.
