Bengali films to watch out for this weekend

Bengali movie buffs are gearing up for an exciting summer this year with a number of films set to hit the theatres. The mega season starts with an interesting line-up of films this Friday, March 29. The audience will be happy to see the kind of films set for release this weekend. Be it a rom-com with a serious message, or a psychological thriller or the extreme journey of a teenage girl – content promises to be the king yet again. ‘Googly’ to ‘Sweater’, here are the films releasing this week:

Googly

Star Cast: Soham Chakraborty, Srabanti Chatterjee, Soumyodipto Saha

Director: Abhimanyu Mukherjee

Synopsis: The rom-com shows how two people Arjun and Dali with stammering problems tie a knot and get confused later about having a child as they become unsure about the destiny of their child Googly. The movie aims to spread the message that every person, irrespective of their disabilities should be accepted with wide arms.

Dwikhondito

Star Cast: Saswata Chatterjee, Anjana Basu, Saayoni Ghosh,

Director: Nabarun Sen

Synopsis: Saswata Chatterjee here essays the role of Kaushik, an author who starts writing a novel based on a fictional character Bipin who has lost his wife, daughter and mother in a land-dispute in his village. When Kaushik finishes the novel he starts hallucinating about the characters of his own story and feels for them. Things go to such an extent that eventually Kaushik’s wife Sumana (played by Anjana Basu) finds it really hard to handle things at home. That’s when Saayoni Ghosh, playing psychiatrist, enters the narrative.

Director: Shieladitya Moulik

Synopsis: It’s a story about an under-confident girl Tuku. Before marriage her would be mother-in-law places a condition that she has to be an expert in knitting. Tuku reaches out to a relative to learn the art and eventually it transforms her into a different person.

Kia and Cosmos

Star Cast: Ritwika Pal, Swastika Mukherjee, Joy Sengupta, Sraman Chatterjee, Zahid Hossain

Director: Sudipto Roy

Synopsis: Ritwika Pal, making her debut is someone to lookout for as she plays the central and pivotal character of Kia the girl who suffers from pervasive developmental disorder and yet finds her way to investigate the murder of a cat. She travels to Kalimpong in search of her missing father. What happens next forms the crux of the story. While Swastika Mukherjee plays the mother of Kia, Joy Sengupta is her missing father.
