Be it Charuulata 2011, 3 Kanya or Mrs Sen, women have always played important roles in Agnidev Chatterjees films. And his latest offering, A Political Murder (Part One), produced by Akash ChatterG and starring Rituparna Sengupta, Rahul, Priyanka among others, is no different.
1x1 polls

Apparently the film has a reference to a certain rape case as well. The director, however, chose to remain tightlipped about it. There is no rape sequence directly used in the storyline. It is a film that highlights the corruption in the system starting from the Delhi rape case, 1,000 crore Maharashtra Education Scam, student politics viz-a-viz death in police custody and many such contemporary issues plaguing the society. The film begins with the nation-wide protest after the Delhi rape case. But when quizzed why he refrained from participating in the protest march after the Kamduni incident, the director said, I dont believe in protest marches. Public memory is really short and soon they move on with life. The day Id participate in any such protest rally, I would not stop till justice is sought. My way of addressing such issues is through my films, where I can share my point of view with the masses.
Its a bit odd that even after your films have done good business, sections of the media dont consider you an A-lister, CT asks... To this, the much-amused director said, Thank God for that! I feel relieved that Im still referred to as Agnidev Chatterjee and not some Ghatak or Ray clone. I dont give a damn about the rat race. The audiences are my true critics and all I care for is their verdict.
A Political Murder, produced by Akash ChatterG, releases on July 5.
