5 promising horror movies with the most terrible ending

5 promising horror movies that ruined everything in execution and acting

The ratio of great to terrible horror films is not even close to even as the genre itself is a tricky one. But, sometimes all it takes is to grab an interesting idea or innovative kill to turn a bad one into a decent one to win over movie buffs. For example, these five Horror films had a promising start with an engaging storyline but they all falter in the midway or at the climax. These five Bengali horror films literary ruined their impressive start.

2/6

‘Jojo’

Mrittika opts for a job as a little boy's (Jojo) governess. But things start going awry after she discovers that Jojo is actually a doll that seems to be alive...

It's a short, twisted tale with a nice twist in the tail. But the fact that director Argha Deep seems to be in a real big hurry to end the film takes away from what could well have been a good thriller in this rarely-touched genre. Maybe in his attempt to make the film fast-paced, he manages to make most of it a blur — the characters don’t get the time to mix and mingle with the audience, and sadly, fail to truly connect with those on this side of the screen.

3/6

‘Ludo’

Half of the film is the young people having fun going to a thousand different places, the other half is the story of the game, in the middle of that the people spend about 20 minutes playing Ludo (which is a random game in itself). From the middle to the end, the montage is a mess, outside of human comprehension. The ending is terrible, it seems that co-directors Q and Nikon took two different short film ideas, joined them in one and put the young people playing the game in the middle to link with the other story.

4/6

‘Kaya’

Despite having an ensemble cast including Raima Sen, Kaushik Sen, Sayani Datta, Santilal Mukherjee, Priyanka Sarkar and Poulami Das, in his directorial debut, Rajib Chowdhury completely messed it up with a weak storyline and wrong execution of the script. The horror flick speaks about a burning issue of sexual exploitation of women in the film industry. Sadly, while this issue needs major attention and the story looked lucrative on paper, the execution turned out to be so childish that it became a pain to sit through the entire film.

5/6

‘Bhoot Chaturdashi’

When four youngsters go to an abandoned haunted house in Bolpur to shoot a documentary, everything starts going wrong. That’s the story but if you are horror film buff, give Bhoot Chaturdashi a miss. It may well make you want to cry (for obvious reasons), but cringe in terror? Not likely. In fact, the so-called horror bits of the film start and end so fast that your brain hardly gets the time to realise that it’s supposed to be afraid. Though the overall ambiance of the jungle and the ruins do feel right, the director Shabbir Mallick, or for that matter the music composer, hardly add much to it.

6/6

‘Hoyto Manush Noy’

Very slow execution, with highly predictive storyline make Kaustav Bhattacharya and Arunava Gangapadhyay’s debut feature film a not so scary movie. The protagonists in the car sequence would remind you of high school stage acting along with not so impressive choice of songs. But the only thing that stands out is the premise. Each and every story of the anthology sequence appears to be meaningless and partly, a copy of stories like ‘Darna Mana Hain’. Still, if you are missing office, and late night cab commute, give it a shot.
