BHUBANESWAR: Ravenshaw University campus in Cuttack erupted in joy after it got the highest National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC) grading of A++ on Saturday. The university received a 3.58 cumulative grade point average out of 4. This is the first public university in the state to receive the highest grade in NAAC.

The university received 3.73 grade points in the curricular aspects, 3.19 in the teaching-learning and evaluation, 3.5 in research, innovations, and extension, 3.85 in the infrastructure and learning resources, 3.75 in the student support and progression, 3.58 in the governance, leadership and management, 3.91 in the institutional values and best practices.

“It is indeed a very proud moment for all of us and has been the result of a joint effort by students, teachers, alumni, and parents. After the A++ rank now our focus will be on maintaining this grade and to work on various suggestions the NAAC team made,” said Prof Dharmabrata Mohapatra, department of economics and spokesperson of the university. The NAAC team visited the university between November 20 and 22 and assessed its infrastructure, faculties, and other facilities.

Mohapatra said, the NAAC team has suggested the university to introduce innovative courses like sports science, yoga science, library science and the courses that have potential to generate employment for the students.

“The NAAC team has also suggested to provide industry interface and to bring necessary changes in the syllabus accordingly. The members of the UGC’s autonomous body also suggested introducing internship programme for students in the university. The team also suggested the university for strengthening the e-resource centre and libraries,” said Mohapatra. “Acting upon the suggestions of the NAAC team and maintaining the grade is the priority of the university,” he maintained. The university has improved from last year’s grade of A+ to A++ this year.

Soon after the news about the A++ grade broke, the Ravenshaw University campus filled with celebrations as students took out processions on drumbeats in front of the office of vice chancellor Sanjay Kumar Nayak.

“Ravenshaw has always been the pioneer in education and has produced illustrious personalities. We are so proud of our alma mater,” said Sourabh Patnaik, a student.

The Ravenshaw college was established in 1868 by Britishers, the college received an autonomous status in the 1990s, and finally upgraded to a unitary university in 2006.
