VISAKHAPATNAM: A low-pressure area is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal in the next few days, according to weathermen as an upper air cyclonic circulation that has persisted in the northeast Bay of Bengal for the last few days has further advanced on Sunday. If the low-pressure area forms, the southwest
monsoon that has partially hit south coastal Andhra Pradesh at Bapatla on Sunday is expected to intensify and move rapidly across the state in the next two to three days.
"There has been an upper air cyclonic circulation in northeast Bay of Bengal for the last few days. We expect the system to become a low-pressure area in the Bay. If this happens, the southwest monsoon will move rapidly across the state in the next two to three days. Low pressure areas will have to be formed in the Bay of Bengal now for the monsoon to advance. The monsoon has been delayed for more than five days for many reasons, including the formation of cyclone Nanauk in the Arabian Sea last week," said N Narasimha Rao, assistant meteorologist (forecast), India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad.
A couple of areas in north coastal Andhra Pradesh districts such as Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam received partial rains. Even the outskirts of Vizag city received partial rain on Sunday afternoon, the weathermen said.
