ELURU: A container driver who slept on the wheel killed two people from the same family by ramming into their car on
National Highway
– 16 near Siddantam in
West Godavari
district on Thursday.
Koganti Sri Hari(50) died on the spot and his elder son Praneeth (25) died in a private hospital at Tanuku while undergoing treatment. Haribabu’s wife Jayalakshmi (42) and younger son Goutam (23) received severe injuries in the incident.
Sri Hari a native of Govindaraopet in
Jayashankar Bhupalpalli
district in Telangana went to
Mallavalli
along with his family to attend the engagement ceremony of his nephew. Later they went to
Mandapalli
to visit a temple and returned for home after offering puja. After their car reached Siddantam on NH-16, a container truck heading to Ravulapalem in opposite direction rammed into the car by crossing over the median.
According to the sub-inspector of Penugonda, L Kiran the driver of the container slept on the wheel and lost control over the vehicle. The container went onto the median, and hit the car that was coming in opposite direction. The right part of the car completely mangled with the impact and those sitting on right side severely injured.
Srihari who was driving the car died on the spot. His elder son Praneeth who was a civil services aspirant died in the hospital. Penugonda police registered a case against the container driver under the section 304 A of IPC.
