One arrested for kidnap of infant at GGH

VIJAYAWADA: An eight-day-old infant who was kidnapped by a woman from Guntur Government General Hospital on Tuesday was traced and handed over to the family.

The infant’s mother, who fed the baby and slept at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, woke up at 4 pm and found her daughter missing. According to hospital Superintendent Dr Kiran Kumar, the infant was rescued by police within 12 hours and handed over to her parents.

Roshni and Rabbani from old Guntur came to Guntur Government General Hospital on September 26. Roshni delivered a girl child on the same day. The mother and daughter were admitted to the maternity ward of the hospital. On Tuesday, when the mother and daughter were sleeping in the afternoon, the accused, Kambala Lakshmi (38) of Uppalapadu of Narsaraopet of Palnadu district, abducted the baby and left the hospital in an autorickshaw.

Police found out from CCTV footage found that the accused went to Guntur bus stand and boarded a bus. Police found the infant at Uppalapadu in the accused’s house. Police arrested the accused.
