VIJAYAWADA: Visitors to the house of
Shaik Rasheed
on Sunday were met with scenes of jubilation celebrating the batter’s half-century against England at the U-19 World Cup 2022 on Saturday night.
Rasheed’s performance drove India towards a victory in a closely-fought match.
At Rasheed’s house in HB Colony in Guntur, his father
Balisha
and mother Jyothi celebrated their son’s performance while Rasheed’s elder brother,
Riaz
, and his friends distributed sweets.
“We knew that our son would make us proud one day. Unlike other youth, he never asked us for smartphones, watches or other gadgets. He was focused throughout on his game. He was very upset when he tested positive for Covid-19 during the league stage of the tournament. But he regained his strength to stand tall and play the much-needed innings,” Shaik Balisha told TOI.
