Two arrested for hacking pet dog to death in Tirupati

Tirupati: Two brothers were arrested by the police for indiscriminately hacking a pet dog to death in Tirupati on Tuesday. The accused were identified as E Sivakumar (26) and E Sai Kumar (28).According to Tirupati East CI P Ramakrishna, P Lavanya, a resident of Shankar colony in Tirupati, had a cross-breed labrador dog named Tommy. On Dec 6, Lavanya left her daughter Greeshma and the pet dog at her uncle E Anandaiah's house as she had to attend some important work.At around 5.30 pm, Lavanya received a panic call from her daughter that Tommy was hacked to death by two persons. Lavanya rushed to her uncle's house and saw Tommy lying dead in a pool of blood, with cut injuries all over its body.When Lavanya enquired about the incident, Greeshma told her mother that E Sivakumar and E Sai Kumar, who live in the opposite house, pelted a stone at Tommy as it was barking. When Tommy didn't stop, they got infuriated and on Sai Kumar's directive, Sivakumar took a knife and indiscriminately hacked the dog to death.Following a complaint by Lavanya, Tirupati East police booked both the brothers under various sections of the BNS Act, the prevention of cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, and the Arms Act, on Tuesday and took them into custody.Police said that the duo will be produced before the local magistrate and subsequently sent to judicial remand.
