VARANASI: A number of devotees thronged prominent ghats in the city to take holy dip in the Ganga on Makar Sankranti (locally called Khichdi) on Saturday.
While a number of prominent ghats including Dasaswamedh, Kedar Ghat, Rajghat, Panchganga and Asi remained filled with devotees, charity and donations in the form of new grains and sesame seeds were also witnessed.

Brisk purchasing of traditional delicacies including dhonda (preparation of puffed rice mixed in jaggery), tilkut (preparation of sesame seeds) were witnessed across stalls and shops in different parts of the city while most of the people also enjoyed khichdi and participated in traditional kite flying to mark the occasion.
