Vadodara: Three persons were arrested for allegedly attempting to hunt nilgai in a forest near Shehra in Panchmahal district, police said.
The incident came to light when a patrol team from Shehra police station heard a sound resembling a gunshot while passing along the Chalali-Waghjipur road, which runs alongside a forested area, on Tuesday night.
Acting on the input, the team moved towards the direction of the sound. Soon after, a herd of nilgai emerged from the forest and ran towards the road, followed by a speeding car.
On spotting the police, the occupants of the car tried to flee. After a chase of around 15km, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which overturned.
Police reached the spot and rescued three persons trapped inside the car. A double-barrelled shotgun and seven live cartridges were recovered from the vehicle.
The accused were identified as Siraj Kharadi, Wasim Dolti and Ayub Kamli, all residents of Godhra.
A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Arms Act, Wildlife Protection Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
