VADODARA: In yet another incident of public-police friction over hiked traffic fines, a motorcyclist stopped for not wearing helmet, dragged a traffic constable trying to stop him for several metres near Narhari Hospital junction on Tuesday morning.


While biker Rikin Soni was arrested by

Sayajigunj

police, Mukesh Rathwa is under treatment at SSG Hospital after he fell on the road at a distance from the traffic junction.

During a routine drive, constable Rathwa stopped Soni, a native of

Godhra

, for not wearing helmet. Soni tried to flee, but when Rathwa tried to hold him, Soni pushed him away. However, when he was about to speed-off, Rathwa held on to the rear handle of the bike and was thus dragged on for a quite a distance. Finally Rathwa fell on the road. His colleagues who were present at the junction rushed to his rescue and a traffic inspector who followed Soni in his car soon nabbed him.

Soni was handed over to Sayajigunj police station and an offence of rash driving and injuring a public servant while on duty was registered against him. Several incidents of public-police frictions have taken place eversince the new traffic rules and hiked fines have been reimplemented.

On Monday a father lay down on the road near Kalaghoda bridge after

traffic cops

fined his son for not wearing helmet. The man identified as Tushar Shah was eventually taken to Raopura police station where an offence was registered against him and his son Jalesh.
