VADODARA: If you haven't had enough from the Twenty20 IPL extravaganza that concluded in South Africa recently, then here is an even more racy and slam-bang tournament that will put you on the edge of your seat. Employees of several top-notch companies will slog it out in the middle in the Slam Bang T-10 Cricket Championship at Reliance Stadium from Saturday.
The tournament has been organised for the first time in the city and about 12 teams will take part in it. "We were motivated by the success of Twenty20 IPL tournament that concluded recently in South Africa. It was cricket plus entertainment and that is what we want to give to the people of Vadodara," said Shatrunjay Gaekwad, Baroda Ranji player and son of former India coach Anshuman Gaekwad.
Gaekwad has organised the tournament along with another cricketer Miten Shah and the funds have been collected through sponsorships. "The tournament will have everything right from colourful T-shirts to DJ music for entertaining the crowd," Gaekwad added.
The teams that will take part in the T-10 tournament include Reliance, IOC, Citibank, HDFC, Philips, Media XI and others. It will be a four-day tournament. The first few matches will be organised on Saturday and Sunday and the rest will be played on June 6 and June 7.
In this version of game, batsman hitting four will be awarded six runs and those hitting six will be given eight runs. Three consecutive fours will fetch the team 20 runs and three consecutive sixes will fetch 30 runs.
"We had taken part in the Corporate Super Six tournament earlier this year. But I am playing the T-10 version for the first time. I am very excited as it is an even faster version of cricket and we need to adopt new tactics," said Abhishek Agrawal, captain of Citibank Team.
"We are looking forward to it. Our families will be there to support us," added Agrawal.
