Trichy: Four of a family were killed after the car in which they travelling collided with a truck approaching from the opposite direction on Thuraiyur-Musiri state highway near Jambunathapuram in Trichy district on Tuesday. Three people including a child were injured.Police identified the deceased as Murugesan, 50, his son Karthik, 28, both from Perambalur, and their relative S Balasubramanian, 31, and his wife Kavitha, 25, from Srirangam. The injured were Murugesan’s wife Chithra, 45, his daughter Narmatha, 28, and Balasubramanian’s one-year-old son Yegan.On Tuesday afternoon, Murugesan and his family were travelling in a multi-utility vehicle (MuV) from Srirangam to perform rituals at a temple in Kodumudi in Erode district. Balasubramanian was driving the vehicle. As they approached Jambunathapuram near Musiri, Balasubramanian lost control over the car, and rammed the vehicle into a truck approaching in the opposite direction. Balasubramanian and Karthik were killed at the spot.Jambunathapuram police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Musiri govt hospital. Murugesan and Kavitha were shifted to the Trichy MGMGH. However, they died without responding to treatment. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
