Two youths killed in bike-car collision at Neyyattinkara
T’puram: Two men were killed after the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a car at Alumoodu Junction in Neyyattinkara on Wednesday night.
The deceased were identified as Antony Ben, 29, and Antony Sherin, 27, both natives of Kaliakkavilai. The accident occurred around midnight.
According to police, the motorcycle was travelling towards Kaliakkavilai from Thiruvananthapuram, when it collided with a car driven by Syed Ali, a native of Vazhimukku. The car was proceeding from Neyyattinkara towards Balaramapuram at the time of the accident.
The impact of the collision threw both riders onto the road, causing them to sustain grievous injuries. The car reportedly went out of control after the crash and rammed into the wall of a nearby shop.
The injured were rushed to Neyyattinkara general hospital. However, Ben and Sherin succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment. Ali was also injured in the accident and has been admitted to hospital. His condition is reported to be stable.
Police recovered CCTV footage from the area and are examining it as part of the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that speeding may have been a factor behind the accident, though the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
Neyyattinkara police registered a case and launched a detailed probe into the incident. The bodies have been shifted to Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital for postmortem examination. Further investigation is under way.
