THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Sister Sherly

, who had been the roommate of Sister Abahaya at the St Pius X convent, told the CBI special court on Saturday that Abhaya had a sound sleep on the night before her death and she had woken Abhaya up by 4am. She also said she had gone with Abhaya to attend a Bible convention that evening. Sherly, who was declared hostile by the prosecution after a detailed witness examination, underlined the argument of the prosecution that Abhaya was mentally sound, was in a jovial mood and didn’t have any plan to commit suicide, in her reply.

diocese, denied knowing some vital information about the events of the day when Abhaya was found murdered in the well of the convent, during the examination. However, to a few questions by CBI prosecutor M Navas, she gave answers that might help the prosecution in the argument.

Sherly also deposed that she had no idea about the high-profile lawyers who had argued for her in the Supreme Court in 2009 when a petition was filed against the CBI’s move to take her for a narcoanalysis test. While answering to Navas’s queries, Sherly said she hadn’t gone to Delhi for filing the petition and she had signed the affidavit at the office of mother general and the fee for advocate was paid by the mother general. She also said the same mother general had given her a permanent job in a church-owned institution. The CBI prosecutor alleged that the job was a quid pro quo deal to ensure silence from Sherly, who is a key witness. The next session will commence on December 12.
