Man slits wife’s throat; daughter alerts police
Thiruvananthapuram: A 46-year-old man allegedly killed his wife in their rented house they share with their four children at Nalanchira on Wednesday early morning. The accused Suresh fled the scene after the murder and remains absconding.
According to police, the deceased Haseena Beevi, 36, sustained a deep cut injury to her throat in the attack that took place around 4.30am. Police said the couple’s 17-year-old daughter who woke up hearing the commotion found Haseena injured and alerted Mannanthala police. Even though police personnel who reached the house rushed Haseena to Thiruvananthapuram Govt Medical College Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
Police said the murder occurred inside a bedroom on the upper floor of the house.
Preliminary investigation suggests that frequent marital disputes had strained the relationship between Haseena and Suresh for a long time. Police sources said the accused allegedly harboured suspicions about his wife, leading to recurring arguments at home.
Haseena had recently lodged a complaint against Suresh following domestic disputes. Police had intervened in the matter and had summoned the couple to resolve the issues. However, tensions reportedly persisted.
According to police, following an argument that broke out between the couple Suresh allegedly took a knife from the kitchen and attacked Haseena, slitting her throat. After the murder, he is suspected to have washed the weapon and placed it back in the kitchen before fleeing the area.
Police and forensic experts examined the scene and collected evidence. The body was shifted to the medical college hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
The family, originally from Vattiyoorkavu, had been residing in the rented house for some time. Police have launched a search to trace the accused. A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
