Kerala to launch drive to identify govt job vacancies
T’puram: The state govt will launch a comprehensive drive to identify and report all vacancies in govt departments and public sector institutions to the state public service commission (PSC) to create more employment opportunities for youth, said local self-govt minister K M Shaji.
The minister said a large number of permanent posts remain vacant across various govt departments, local self-govt institutions and public sector undertakings. Failure to fill these vacancies in a timely manner affects the quality of public services and administrative efficiency while disappointing lakhs of job aspirants preparing for govt employment.
As part of the govt’s employment-oriented approach, detailed information on existing vacancies, anticipated vacancies and posts free from legal hurdles will be collected and reported to the PSC. Instructions will be issued to department secretaries and heads of departments to conduct a comprehensive assessment of vacancies, he said.
A special mechanism will also be established to identify unreported vacancies, while the progress of vacancy reporting will be reviewed on a monthly basis to ensure accountability and timely action.
To enhance transparency, the govt plans to introduce a digital dashboard that will provide the public with information on vacancies reported to the PSC, vacancies yet to be reported and the status of recruitment processes.
“Filling vacancies in govt services is not merely an administrative necessity but also a social responsibility towards Kerala’s youth. No qualified candidate should be denied an opportunity. Every vacancy must be reported and every eligible applicant should get a fair chance,” the minister said.
Shaji reiterated that the govt is committed to employment generation and ensuring job opportunities for young people. He added that steps are being taken to accelerate recruitment by reporting vacancies across all departments to the PSC at the earliest.
