Thiruvananthapuram: The city police on Friday arrested five people in connection with the death of a 28-year-old man due to electrocution while catching fish from a river at Padasseri near Attukal.
The arrested have been identified as Suresh (52) a resident of Attukal near Padassery, Kiran (26) alias Chinu,
Sreejith (28) alias Makku, Madhusoodanan (48), and Akhil Jayan (28) alias Unni.
The deceased Kannan was taken to the river by the accused for fishing under the Keezhambil bridge at Attukal on July 28, 2022, at 5pm.
The accused then tied a copper wire to a bamboo piece that was connected to a live wire using a cable from the house of one of the accused.
Later, the bamboo was thrown into the river, and Kannan was asked to collect the fish that floated after being electrocuted.
While he was collecting the fish, the second accused Chinu again threw the bamboo piece into the river, and Kannan suffered an electric shock.
The accused allegedly delayed taking him to the hospital to cover up the incident.
He was moved to the hospital only after his condition became worse. Kannan later died at the hospital on August 1.
His parents approached the police, alleging foul play, and the cops registered a case for unnatural death under section 174 of the CrPC.
During the interrogation, there were contradictions in the statement of the accused, which helped the police to find their role in the murder.
