DHARAMSHALA: An Indian Air Force fighter pilot died on Wednesday after the jet he was flying crashed at
Fatehpur
area of
Kangra district
at around 1.30pm. The crash site is located adjacent to the
Pathankot air force base. A court of inquiry has been ordered to establish the cause of the accident.
Kangra's superintendent of police,
Santosh Patial
while confirming that it was MiG-21, said, “ Some pieces of flesh have been reported but there has been no civilian causality so far."
As per local villagers who gathered in huge numbers to witness the scene, the plane caught fire mid-air and fell down while it was still on fire.
“Plane scattered into pieces and a hole was created at the spot where it fell down” said one of the eye witnesses.
Meanwhile, two air force choppers have landed at the crash site to carry out evacuation process.
