Highway to Kinnaur blocked, essentials to be sent via Gramphu
Shimla: As the closure of the Shimla-Kinnaur-Spiti national highway at Nigulsari in Kinnaur has put a halt on vehicular traffic, affecting the supply of essential commodities, the Spiti administration has now decided to channelise the supplies from the Manali side through the Gramphu-Kaza-Sumdo road. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been asked to ensure proper maintenance of the Gramphu-Kaza-Sumdo road and cash crops, mainly apples, from Kinnaur district will be transported through this stretch. On Sunday, Himachal Pradesh revenue minister Jagat Singh Negi inspected the restoration works at Nigulsari. He said it was necessary to restore the route at the earliest so that the cash crops from Kinnaur could be transported to the market.Negi said he was personally inspecting the restoration works at Nigulsari. The required men and machinery has been deployed at the spot so that the road can be reopened for traffic at the earliest, he added.Meanwhile, Spiti SDM Harsh Negi has written to the SP, Lahaul-Spiti; commanding officer, 108 RCC GREF, at Sumdo; commanding officer, 94 RCC GREF, at Udaipur; and the DSP, Spiti, and the DSP, Lahaul, informing them about the diversion of traffic through NH-505 (Gramphu-Kaza-Sumdo road). The letter mentioned that the Shimla-Kinnaur national highway was badly damaged at Nigulsari and therefore, vehicles carrying LPG cylinders and essential daily need supplies and fuel tankers had been diverted to NH-505 to enable supplies to the Spiti sub-division and Kinnaur district.Additionally, trucks carrying apples and pea from Kinnaur will also ply on the NH-505 for some time, read the letter.Harsh Negi requested the BRO officials to deploy the necessary equipment and manpower along the NH-505 for removing all kinds of obstacles and keep the road open round the clock.SHO, Kaza, has been instructed to conduct regular patrolling between Lossar and Chhota Dhada and regularly update the control centre at Kaza and the SDM about the prevailing situation.
